Discussion meeting “Bad management is expensive: challenges for startups and technology companies”

APRIL 2, 2024 17:00 – 19:00

We invite you to a private meeting-discussion with members of supervisory boards, business angels, tech entrepreneurs and professors INSEAD Center for Corporate Governance and Ukrainian Corporate Governance Academy. Focusing on the development of a globally competitive business space for the technology industry, Diia.City United in partnership with the Ukrainian Corporate Governance Academy and with the support Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and Genesis seeks to support Ukrainian startups and rapidly developing technology companies, and to create prerequisites for scaling and attracting foreign investors.

The consequences of inefficient management are many: slowed growth, bad reputation, reduced value of these companies, as well as personal emotional, reputational and financial losses for the main actors. CEOs and directors of startups and growing companies are increasingly facing lawsuits from investors (Uber, Nine Systems), shareholders (Trados), or even their employees (Good Technology). These attacks typically focus on management errors. All of these examples highlight one fact: governance matters a lot to startups, and poor governance can be costly.

Among the speakers of the event “Poor management is expensive: challenges for startups and technology companies”:

  • Bart Husken, a professor at the INSEAD Center for Corporate Governance and an entrepreneur in the high-tech sector with more than 25 years of experience, including 17 years at Ericsson; founder of venture capital-backed Bluetooth device pioneer SouthWing and SaaS IoT startup Celpax. He is a board member, business angel, and consultant to more than 20 SaaS, IoT, AI, consumer electronics, and medtech projects. The professor is an expert evaluator and jury member for the European Commission’s Accelerator (EIC) with an investment budget of €10 billion.
  • Ludo Van der Heyden, academic director-founder of the INSEAD Center for Corporate Governance, author of articles for Harvard Business Review and Strategy & Business, member of the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine and chairman of the board of a firm that develops software for seismic analysis.
  • Anastasia Boshko,  executive director of UCGA.
  • Oleksandr Kosovan, founder and CEO of MacPaw, president of Diia.City United.
  • Darya Leshchenko, managing partner at SupportYourApp in Ukraine.
  • Nataliya Mykolska, executive director of Diia.City United.
  • Oleksiy Nishchyk, Education Operations Director at Genesis.
  • Victor Samoilenko, CEO and co-founder of Aspichi.

Target audience: founders, owners and top managers of technology companies, investors, business angels and start-up founders, as well as all those who would like to learn more about the importance of corporate governance for startups and technology companies.

Please note that pre-registration is required and only registered participants will be notified of the venue and any possible schedule changes. The number of places is limited, so priority will be given to confirmation of registration member companies of Diia.City United, representatives of UCGA Alumni and Diya.City resident startups.
