Diia.City United continues the series of high-level strategic engagements under the «Dialogues: Ukraine – The World» initiative.
On January 24, our members met with a German delegation led by H.E. Heiko Thoms, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine.
The primary focus of this closed-door session was to transform diplomatic engagement into concrete opportunities for Ukrainian business — from mastering the nuances of the German market to securing strategic investment and establishing joint ventures in defence technology.
Focus: Defence Tech, Finances, EU Integration
The conversation leaned heavily into the future of Defence Tech, investments, and Ukraine’s trajectory toward EU integration.
Participants tackled the practicalities of scaling drone production and Electronic Warfare (EW) systems. A significant portion of the dialogue was dedicated to investment guarantees — a field where Germany currently leads the world in its support for Ukraine, providing the necessary security for long-term capital commitments.
After the presentations from our member companies, German partners highlighted a massive potential for collaboration in IT & Digitalisation, Defence Tech, G2G Initiatives strengthening ties between the respective Ministries of Defence.
A Two-Way Street of Innovation
Sir Thoms offered a candid perspective on the synergy between our nations:
Germany is often deliberate when it comes to digital transformation. This is precisely where Ukrainian expertise and speed can catalyse the state’s economy.
A Direct Bridge to the German Market
The core message of the meeting was clear: do not hesitate to reach out.
The German Embassy is committed to serving as a navigator for Ukrainian tech companies by:
- facilitating introductions to the right strategic contacts
- navigating the complexities of export control procedures
- acting as a mediator for intergovernmental (G2G) projects
The Ambassador reaffirmed that fostering business-to-business cooperation remains a top priority for the Embassy’s mission.
Our session turned into a dynamic, constructive exchange. While most members received direct answers to their questions from the Ambassador himself, the informal Q&A with the mission’s team continued for over an hour afterwards.
We are grateful to our partners for their transparency and their commitment to helping Ukrainian businesses integrate into the European market today.
